INGROWN TOENAILS

An ingrown toenail is defined as a condition where the toenail impinges on the soft tissue either on the side or at the end of the toe. If the nail digs into the skin and causes pain and/or infection, does it constitute an ingrown toenail.

Treatment can usually be performed in the office.

HEAL YOUR HEEL PAIN

One of the most common complaints in our office is that of heel pain. In excess of ninety percent of heel pain complaints are diagnosed as having inflammation of the plantar fascia (a ligament on the bottom of the foot). Commonly referred to as a heel spur or stone bruise, plantar fasciitis "plantar fash-ee-itis" can be a severely debilitating and painful condition.

Treatment options may include taping, padding, arch supports, night splints, steroid injection, anti-inflammatory medication, physical therapy, stretching exercises, activity modifications, avoidance of bare feet, rest, shock wave therapy, platelet-rich plasma injection and surgery.

FUNGAL INFECTION OF TOENAILS

A fungus that grows under the toenail often causes thick, discolored and brittle toenails. The fungus grows under the toenail, often killing the nail. Many believe the cause to be related to a genetic predisposition. It has never been proven that poor hygiene nor locker rooms have any correlation to developing a fungally infected toenail.

Treatment options for fungally infected toenails involve either an oral medication taken for three to five months, removal of the toenail or application of a topical liquid applied every day for up to a year.

KERYflex LASER TREATMENT

KERYflex is considered to be the “gold standard” cosmetic improvement to compliment laser fungal treatments. A series of KERYflex treatments are applied during the time it takes new nails to clear. Applications are stopped when new nails emerge.

PLATELET-RICH
PLASMA INJECTION THERAPY

There are times when traditional conservative treatments such as ice, rest, padding, taping, anti-inflammatory medications, steroid injections, physical therapy, shoe inserts, night splints, immobilization and shoe and/or activity modifications simply won't remove heel pain.

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) injection involves drawing blood from the arm, spinning the blood down in a centrifuge and isolating the platelets. The platelets contain the growth factors within blood.

LASER TREATMENT

Bluegrass Foot Centers offers laser treatment for inflammation and swelling reduction works as it creates a deep heat that stimulates blood flow and the body's own anti-inflammatory process to greatly reduce the amount of inflammation and speed healing.
